Hello - my name's Toria and I'm here to find expertise and inspiration for our new BARF regime! We have a Sibe that gets reoccurring bouts of Colitis (quite bad and very debilitating) and we've been feeding Raw for about six months.
She's had a couple of bouts in that time but nothing like as many as she has had before we switched.

Welcome to the forum Toria you have come to the right place for advice on Raw Feeding.
Firstly can I ask do you feed Barf or A Species Appropriate diet as they are both completely different.
Feel free to post any questions that you may have and have fun and enjoy the forum as much as everyone else does.

Welcome Toria! Hope you find everything you need. As already said a BARF diet is very different to the species appropriate diet. We would recommend and you might find by switching over fully will help your Sibe even further as he's not having to digest a lot of waste he doesn't need. If you need any help just shout :smile

Hi guys - oh dear - I've got it confused already... :smile I'm not sure what I feed now! Having read the 12 commandments earlier I think we could be getting at least part of it wrong - he gets chicken wings and a few veggies too - but :) (great smilies!) and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon! Thank you for the heads up though.

Hello and welcome! Do you have any pics of your furkid? We'd love to see some!

I know there is a ton of information out there on feeding raw, but I can PROMISE you that veggies are a waste of money and nutrients when you feed them to a dog. Just keep researching prey-model raw and you will get things straightened out, but you are already on the right track!

Hi there Toria,
Posted Image to the forum :)

Don't be confused, we are to help you & your Husky :)

It is very simple, your Husky is a Domestic Wolf & Wolves are Carnivores.
A Carnivore was designed by Mother Nature to eat Raw Meat, Raw Fish, Raw Edible Bone & Raw Organs.
WE NEVER EVER FEED OUR HUSKIES GRAINS - THIS MEANS, NO OATS, RICE, WHEAT, BREAD, CORN, ETC.
NO VEGETABLES OR FRUIT.
We only ever feed the later, Vegetables or Fruit as "Treats" only, even then it's very little.
Treats of Vegetables or Fruit NEVER make up a percentage of our Huskies "Raw Feeding" diet - Quite frankly they just have no digestible need for them - They go in the same way as they come out! - Ours will only get them on a Sunday, when I'm preparing lunch, liquidised as a treat with their main 500g Raw Red Meat meal.

A "Raw Food" diet of approx 80% Raw Meat, 10% Raw Edible Bone, 5% Raw Offal, 5% Raw Liver is the exact same as a Husky or Wolf would be eating in the wild & Siberia.

The Chicken wings are a little on the small side, a Puppy would eat these.
Try a Whole Chicken & divide it into 4 Quarters.
This can be done by using a Meat Cleaver or you could use a sharp pair of Kitchen Scissors.
The Meat Cleaver or Scissors come in handy for portioning up other variety's of meats as well.

So please don't be confused, it really is easy!
We are here to help you out every step of the way.

Please post any questions you may have.
Ivan.
