Hello!
I'm from Devon but currently at university in Cornwall.
I've absolutely adored huskies and wolf dogs (I know they're not the same :)) for a very long time, but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to own one yet.
I'd definitely jump at the chance though!
Hopefully by joining this board, I'll gain some better knowledge on the doggies and meet some lovely new people who own them and can give me some handy info and personal little stories about their huskies :)
I'd like to get some work experience with some dogs, so if anyone in the Devon/Cornwall area could let me know if there was any work going either caring for them or watching some racing, or anything that you think would benefit etc etc that would be brilliant!

Hope to chat with you all soon!

cheers, Moon Flower :)

Hey Bryony welcome to the forum! Good to see prospective new owners getting the research before taking the plunge on husky ownership, its certainly a challenge but very rewarding in the long run. Your definately in the right place as the owners of the forum are in the cornwall area so im sure they have a few contacts that might be able to help you.
If theres any areas that confuse you or you want some additional information to whats already on the forum then please let me know :)

Welcome! I'm afraid I can't help much where you are, but kudos to you on educating yourself before becoming a husky parent!

Welcome to the forum!

You are doing the right thing by researching the breed(s) before you actually get one. There is a lot to learn, but at least it isn't boring!! If only more people approached this situation like yourself.....there would be less huskies (and dogs in general) in shelters everywhere :)

We hope you (i'm sure you will!!) enjoy it here

hey hey welcome to the forum moon flower . and well done on the researching before owning . there's heaps of info in here but remember nothing is totally text book, bit like reading a baby manual before you have a child . it doesn't always prepare you for the best and worst bits, but at least you get an insight as to sort of what to expect . my first husky silver is nothing like any other husky i've ever met however storm is errr including the naughty bits too lol

Hello there welcome to the forum.
We hope you enjoy it here as much as everyone else does.
We are so glad that you have decided to do some research and gain some experience before getting a Husky.
What part of Devon / Cornwall are you?

Thank you everyone for all of your lovely welcomes!

Tekisyen, when I'm in Devon I live in the south in a little town called Teignmouth but at the moment I'm at university so I'm living in Falmouth!

We have a member that lives in Teignmouth.
We are in a little village called St Mellion which is just outside Saltash.

Oh brilliant, I'll have to find out who that is.

Ah yes, my housemate lives in Saltash so she'll know where that is.

Do you think it would be possible if there was any work experience going, or any way that I could meet some huskies and get to know what they're about, go out for walks, that kind of thing?

Thanks!

Work experience I'm not sure of
But certainly walking Huskies and generally being around them we can sort something out.
:) it's not often someone gets offered help to walk their Huskies, infact its usually the opposite.
We have 2 different contrasts here with our Huskies. Ice is not your typical Husky whereas Kira is so you will be able to see the differences there.
